help with do's and dont's MD'ing in west virginia

greetings all,

i'll be in wheeling in early october an wanted to find out if there's any special laws about MD'ing in that area. i know nothing about west virginia or wheeling for that matter. i'm going up for a planetarium conference and will be staying at oglebay resort. the folks at oglebay said it was okay to MD on their grounds as long as i didnt tear up the lawn and stayed out of the gardens and such. i may or may not have a car, not sure yet. my MD'ing may be limited to what i can get to on foot from the resort.

any help/info/ideas would be appreciated.

If it isn't posted or federal land hunt it. If private property permission is strongly suggested. If in the woods wear safety orange for time of year you are visiting. Try messaging civilman1 he is from Harpers Ferry area, might be able to hook you up with some detecting.
