Ok so I got this free with a box lot I was buying. Auction house hasn't been able to sell it for months. They decided to clean house and just grouped stuff together. Well I ended up with it. Didn't really want it or know anything about it, but I always take everything home to look up before tossing it. Anyway, looked it up and apparently its got some value. Its a painting of Peyote? birds signed by Chief Terry Saul 1920s-1976. I've seen prices sold and unsold all over the place from $500+ to several thousands. Can anyone help ID it or know where it would be titled at. I don't think I'll be able to find the same painting online. I did find a couple art galleries that specialize in his artwork. I was going to contact them next week, thought I'd try here first. Any help is appreciated. Its about 31" x 18", can't get exact measurement because its matted.

What is the lettering to the right of his signature? Wouldn't that be the title or name of the painting?

edit- It could be a Choctaw word too I suppose, but it could be both.

It's ou-asl not sure what it means but a lot of his paintings are marked that way.

Just doing a bit of tidying up on some older threads, mainly for the benefit of anyone searching the site for information.

Very nice.

The initials after Terry Saul’s name are OU-ASL, not OU-ASI. I believe they stand for Oklahoma University (University of Oklahoma, Norman (OU)), where gained his BFA and MFA degrees in 1948 and 1949 respectively, and the Art Students League of New York where he also studied from 1951 to 1952.
