Help with ID please on a "mystery" item found at beach today; also old button

Hi :hello:,

Was out this morning for 3 hrs. at a near-by old beach.

Found silver "Roosie"; 10K gold filled portion of a Bulova watch; an old button ; clads, and an item that I can't figure out what it is. :icon_scratch:

Hank thinks it might be a small pocket knife...could be :dontknow:

Maybe someone out there can help us on the ID :help:

It has a very pretty pattern , and I am presently electrolyzing it hoping to get the stubborn iron -like adhesions off of it.

The old metal button is also being electrolyzed ....it has a pattern on the face; the back 'hook" is gone. :(

Gold continues to elude me.....next time. :icon_sunny:

Here's pics ( also included the previous silver dimes now cleaned and shined; & cleaned "barnacled" bottle.

Thanks for looking

Lorraine

It looks Gold colored, maybe it is low gold like 10k or 8k where it would not hold up to an acid
test but be protected in the water.
you know Silver turns black in Salt water, but gold does not change, and looks like it looks out of the
ground..

Your little knife could be an old cigar cutting knife. Guys used to carry around them before the newer guillotine style ones came out.

I checked it again with my Mizer test kit...result negative. I agree that the metal looks good for being in the ground for what seems to be a very long time, but with a loupe I can see much copper and discoloration in parts.

I'm still cleaning it with WD40...but I don't think the blades will ever see the light of day...that crusting is solid as a rock :(

Lorraine....My first thoughts was that it was a fan, but after posts from folk with more knowledge than me, it bought to mind of a small 'fruit knife' that I have got. Mine has a mother of pearl handle and is only about 6" long. Fruit knives can be quite ornate. Am looking forward to seeing what this will look like. Whatever it is, it's a nice find.

Thank you , unicorn.. I 'm hoping to post another pic soon if I can loosen up the knife (s) inside.
