Here is another I could use some help with, I found this last week in an old ghost town that is long gone it only existed for a few years in the 1890s and nothing I have found there is modern. Any ideas on what this is?

it is brass and measures appx. .5 " x 2" x .25" thick . I thought maybe it was part of a rifle receiver that attaches to the stock ? it is brass but has an iron attachment on the bottom also where it is broken is a threaded hole and has a number probably part of a serial number .
Thanks for any help
