Thank you Torrero. Don't believe it's an ashtray. If it is, very small and not very deep all.
Given its size, I suppose it could be a trinket dish, but I'm still holding on to the ashtray idea. Not all ashtrays had dips to hold the cigarettes.

What about the depth itself would that be a better way to tell? It's shallow
 

Well, if I had to put money on it...I'd say it's a "trinket dish". I've seen a few of them over the years, and they all look similar. Just meant to hold a few small items...keys, change, that sort of thing. Very cool. 👍

Yes, I've researched his story and haven't tied it to the property I was on. If you have a newspaper database you will find more about the murder. From suspects, evidence found, lynch mobs, and a claim of him being a long lost relative missing for over forty years.
 

So if YOU had to wager a guess....what do YOU think it is? Just curious if you had any speculative ideas on it. :)
