Got this medal as it is some what different than other Japanese medals I have seen. On the obverse side there looks like the letter S and number 20, the number 4 and the number 3 between the Japanese symbols. Also just above those are imprints of where symbols should be however they are not there. There is the number 58 on the outer edge (not sure what this is for) maybe year? Medal is 50mm ( 2 inch ) in size and appears it could be family related (the encircled 3 figures father, mother & child ?) on obverse side.
I have not yet received the medal and these are the sellers pictures and if needed will post pictures after I receive it.

[FONT=&quot]Any and all help translating the Japanese symbols as to the what this is suppose to represent is appreciated. Comments on if this is a could be a commemorative, a reproduction, a fantasy or what ever else it may be are welcome. Medal also has a case included. Thanks in advance to all........................

What did the seller represent them to be?
Don......

Don, It was listed as "Unknown in velvet box". I'm a sucker for the unknown's and researching them. For $20.00 I'm not going to lose and hopefully find out what this is.

Just guessing, but judging by the way they're dressed, it looks like some kind of Olympic medallion.....

Excellent observation and one I didn't think of. Maybe the mountain top represents Mount Olympus in Greece. Usually the olympic medals will have the rings
on them but perhaps this may be associated in a different respect....Great idea Itsmine...

The 4 simpler characters say ME-RI-YA-SU, which refers to the knitting industry in Japan. Meriyasu likely comes from the Portuguese word for 'socks' (meias).

I have no idea what it's use might have been.
