✅ SOLVED Help with old beam

Hello. The Mississippi River washed up this big beam. I’m really wanting to use it in my log home. Out of curiosity, how do y’all think it was used? Railroad, barn, etc.? The round ends is throwing me off.

Possibly a bridge support. But it looks to be milled rather than hewn .

Thanks. I was leaning toward bridge support myself. I’ve been looking on the internet but can’t find examples of the ends. Yes, it’s milled. Saw no evidence of axe markings.

Sure looks like a bridge or trestle bracing. The round end is most likely for a large bolt and washer.

My first thought was a board from a drag line or crane pad.But you guys are probably right on a bridge or trestle beam. Does it smell like creosote? Used to treat wood to prevent rot. Pine?
