I live in Maryland right near the Antietam Battlefield. I do restoration on the civil war homes in this area and get a few permission slips to hunt.

My problem is that I am not skilled enough to discern the good signals from the bad. I spent eight hours at a 1750 farm with home, forge, and 8 other outbuilding, and I got one really good hand hammered wood bore and 5 gallon bucket of junk.

Does any have ANY tips or techniques that they could share.

Or if someone with experience would like to come over and hunt a few......that would be coool!

if you are lucky enough to get the ok to hunt a battle ground area dig it all (plus make sure to cover your holes!)--sort it later -- if you find unfired "dropped" lead bullets be on the lookout check the area very carefully -- they might have been dropped by a wounded or killed solider and "dropped" weapons and lost belt buckles and buttons might be very close by --if you think its a camp site area the tents were normally placed on the high ground areas to keep the tents out of the water in case of rain ( for drainage) -- good luck -- Ivan

As said above, a 6000 Whites doe very good with a fast sweep speed. HH ;)

Hey CivilMan,you were the one I was refering to above about finding som nice minies etc. I have been up there personally myself but you have also really filled us in on the areas around Antietam. I have enjoyed your posts over the past year and know from my experience and especially from yours about how hard many of the areas around there have been hit. I am glad to see you guys hooking up to do some hunting! I know that you will be able to help him out a great deal and fill him in on those spots that you have hit over the years!! ;) ;) ;) My friend CivilMan will have ya'll on some minies in no time!! HH ;) ;)
