this was found by a buddy when we were diggin a bottle dump in Ybor City in Tampa. The site was 1900ish. Anybody have any idea what it's from? Nothing stamped on the back that i can tell.
There are a lot of variation of two-piece buckles... The Army of Northern Virginia has a few styles but they did not look like this does. (See the Army of N. VA. Here: http://hanoverbrass.com/MoreBuckles12.htm)
Another example of this confederate maker is here: The N.C. False Two-Piece Sunburst...
Little more info from Treasure Depot Buckle Daddies :
"IM NOT 100%, BUT THE ENGINEER BUCKLES WERE RECTANGULAR UNTIL 1832 REGULATIONS SPECIFIED THEM TO BE ELIPTICAL (OVAL FOR DUMMIES LIKE ME), IT LOOKS SIMILAR TO THE 1830 TO 1845 MILITIA OFFICERS PLATES IN KERSIS AND ODONNELLS BOOKS ,I AM SURE THAT THERE WERE MANY STYLES AT THE TIME A SUPER FIND, I HOPE THE TONGUE IS FOUND ALSO"
