Here's a heart pounding find

Amazing what you come across searching for those lost foundations. :icon_sunny:

You have to stop and wonder....what kind of loot was heisted from here. Did they drop any?

But I'll tell you...before i saw the big hole in the backside...I thought for sure I hit the jack-pot!

I did find several foundations in the vicinity and a walled over cave???...could be intersting.

Re: Here's a heart pounding find

I'll tell ya whats heart pounding....its when you've been told that there is money in a mason jar buried on some land that you hunt, so you hunt for days searching this land, then one day your detector goes off, so you start to dig praying the whole time its the mason jar full of money...then what do you see? A MASON JAR!........But its only the friggen LID!

Now thats heart pounding....

I can say it was a beautiful moment even if it did only last a second! :'(

I know how ya feel...... :-\ :-[

Re: Here's a heart pounding find

dont just go busting into the cave... do your research and contact the NSS (national speological scociety) if its an unmapped cave then you could potentially be destroying a very delicate ecosystem that takes litterally thousands of years to build up.
if they think its worth while then they would send a team of surveyors that are trained for caving and dealing with the cave itself.
the reason i am so adimant about it is i have been turned on to caving by my fiancee who is a geologist and a caver.

Re: Here's a heart pounding find

Thanks DiverGuy. I stuck my head in behind the wall and immediately determined there was no way in the world I was going in it.

It's an old abandoned mine shaft from the mid 1800's. There is a brick column behind the wall that was...and I do mean WAS...supporting the ceiling. It's now on a precarious 40 degree tilt with a monster slab of slate weighing I'd bet a few hundred tons....slowing pushing the column over.

I have no clue as to how long it took for it to get to the point it is now...but I sure as heck don't want to be inside when it decides to finally let loose.

I don't know how well the pics will come out...but here's a peek at it.

And just as an interesting point...this is the old "Natrona Mine" In Natrona, Pa. I'm not sure if it was #1 or #2. There's a second one somewhere.
I'm working this for some neat stuff...lots of history back in them thar hills...
