Found this I think it’s a button smaller then a dime.found here in southern Maryland.in the patuxent river good luck on this one thanks for any help

It obviously depicts a Greek or Roman figure with a head wreath. I don't think it's ancient though. From the extensive corrosion, its probably from the 1800's.

Are those letters along the rim from about 7 to 9 o'clock? If so, what are they?

yes they are when i get home ill dig out the big magnafier and seel if i can read them

Being that size, and the back is gone, I would suspect it to be a bib overall button, late 1800s to early 1900s.
(They usually had tin backs which are almost always gone).

At it's present condition I would guess a roman type coin . Might need a professional to carefully clean it

Looks more like a coin or a token, than a button, to me. I thought I saw 2 or 3 Greek letters on it. One of which appears to be an omega.

There was a Civil War POW Camp down there at Point Lookout Md, Lots of Civil War Activity down in that area, confederate smuggling operations and even the search for John Wilkes Booth. It could be civil war era but likely civilian, I don't know of any Units, (Union or Confederate) that had such a button.
