Here's One For You, Ebay Customer...

Ebay Customer...Sells item he just purchased from me for $19.51 less than he paid for it.

So I was posting my latest banner find here-
http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/general-discussion/493754-where-s-your-banner-finds.html

trying to be funny and I happened to find another banner like mine that recently sold on ebay. Turns out it's the same one I sold in Jan. but they sold it for less than they bought it for. Why would someone do this? Doesn't make much sense to me. Here was mine- Vintage Eastern Airlines Airport Advertising Banner Service Destination Cities | eBay and here is the same banner sold less than a month later by the guy who purchased mine- 80s Eastern Airlines Suede Leather Wall Banner Airport Destination Cities RARE | eBay

At first I didn't realize it was mine until I looked at it and saw the same mark that mine had, then the name started looking familiar and I searched my completed listings and found it. I don't know, just thought it was strange and wanted to share.

My guess is that he thought he could flip it for a profit and was wrong.

IN case no one has noticed, the antiques market is tanking, just like the oil market. I've bought some items for $100 that should have been $500. Conversely, going the other way selling stinks right now.

Maybe, he went about it the wrong way though. I had that banner for a few years, it came out of an airport terminal at MIA years ago supposedly. I could never find another one like it whenever I searched. I searched at least a half dozen times in the last 2-3 years or whatever. So I had nothing to base a BIN price, which is why I listed it at auction with a decent starting bid. He should have listed it for $99.99 BIN or something. It's not like it's a common everyday item. I was happy because I only had a couple dollars in it anyway.

I think it depends on the item or area of collecting. Many things have been taking a dump for years. It started shortly after the birth of ebay. Then some items are worth more now too. The trick is to buy low always to reduce the risk of a loss if you aren't up to date on a certain item or items, if you are buying for resale.

Yes that was my thoughts also .sometimes it works when you buy and then resell and sometimes it does not .. The reseller did not do it on purpose . To me it was something that did not work out for the reseller.. It has happened to me...

Also, don't forget we're in TAX season again, not everyone is prospering, and the Fed doesn't wait. Hard times almost always hit unexpectedly. I've been educated on that too many times.....

I had a guy buy a bunch of stuff from me. He spent $1000/month for 3 months in a row. He said he was buying it all from me so he can resell it and use that money to buy silver. So I watched his site and this man auctioned off everything he bought for me and most of it sold for less than what he paid for it. I could never understand why he was doing it. I certainly miss his business though! All you could do is sit there and laugh though when he would buy something from me for $18 and sell it on auction for $10 or $15. I stop following him after he stopped purchasing things though.

But he would come through and put an offer on like 25 things or more and it would be like $20 less than what I was listing it for. Them try auctioning it to get more. I would ship a box FULL of stuff to him!
