Hey I need help with coin values before i go to a coin auction this week.

Sorry I have not got a new coin value book since 2003. Does anyone know the value of an 1807 large cent in mint condition and an 1879 morgan dollar in uncirculated condition. Last week I picked up 19 walkers at this auction for less than the current value of silver which was at $13.88. I also picked up the mint set of 1971 for $10.00 and two mint 1971 s and 1972 s silver eisenhower for $5.00 each.

depends on the grades. the 1807 in the 2006 red book is as follows: Vg-8 $75, F-12 $150 - $200, vf-20 $325- $400, EF-40, $850-$1200. There are different varieties: small fraction, large fraction, 7 over 6 and a die break. What's the mint mark on the Morgan? 1879 plain goes from Vf-20 at $15 to MS-64 at $125.

The 1879 morgan is an 'S.' and believe me it is the most beautiful morgan i have ever seen. The guy who is selling it said his great great grandfather would take silver coins straight from the mint and put them in his safe. "It has only touched his hands." is what the guy told me.

You need to get some books on coins, if your gonna do any serious coin collecting,not just the common redbook either.The knowledge you will gain from them will pay for the books as well as save you money in the long run.The 1879s mint Morgan you refer to is a common date with many fine examples to be had, however,it has two reverse designs and one of them is worth quite a bit more than the other in the higher grades.I'm talking about a 1000 dollar coin versus a 40-50 dollar coin of the same grade depending on the reverse design.It's referred to as the second and third reverse design.Or as the "flat breast" and "round breast" variety.The second reverse which is more rare thus more expensive is the variety where the eagles breast is dished or concave.On the third reverse the eagle breast design is rounded or convex.As far as the price goes,i'm talking about very high grade coins of ms 64 or better,professionally graded of course.Anyway,good luck at the auction,I hope you find a rare one. ps-One more thing,be aware that if a coin has been cleaned it usually lowers the value unless it has been done by a proffesional.

Skins: You say that your 1807 LC is in Mint Condition? The 2007 Red Book doesn't show Pre 1816 LC beyond EF! Which probably means $$$

There are also 5 different Varieties! I need a well focused Pic of each side of the Coin!

Your 1879S Morgan in Mint Condition? The Book shows $110 & $43 in MS-60 (there are 2 Varieties), & $380 & $55 in MS-63!

Be careful, if you are going to buy coins, you need to be able to grade them yourself, don't rely on someone elses opinion.

Grading coins can be tough since you have to also learn obverse and reverse grading since some coins on the front (obverse) might grade MS-60 with a # of bag marks (jostled against other coins and reeded edges putting pressure marks on the coin) while the back may grade MS-62 or MS-63.

When you get into high end coins, remember an auctioneer will generally high grade the coin as it's in his client's best interest as well as the auctioneer's since he gets a % of the final sell price. You can't always take the auctioneer's word as gospel so in the final outcome it's caveat emptor (buyer beware).

You need to have these coins graded before you sell them though, as it will vastly increase the price you get. If it's not professionally graded, it's just a guess as to the proper grade. For instance, that 1807 large cent can vary in price anywhere from $50 to $125,000 or more.
