High Desert Nevada Finds

Yesterday my buddy @Conito@55 and I headed to a spot a few hours east to see what we could find. He found a V nickel at the place we originally went to search, but not much else was showing up so we headed out to check another spot. This place had evidence of some kind of mining or milling activity, but I couldn't find anything in my research as to what exactly.
Quite a few stone foundations and other ruins showed a good amount of activity.

While we found a great many targets to dig up, we left the large majority of that junk on site.
Here are the finds I brought home:

This Eagle pencil sharpener with a Britain patent date of Aug. 1, 1893 still has part of a pencil in it.

These hardstone balls were plentiful in one area and look to be man made, no doubt used in the processing of materials.

We don't see many cacti in Northern Nevada, but here was this lonely little guy.

It was a long drive out there for 20 cents, but with the great weather and company it was a really fun day in the field!

Those hard stone balls are from a Ball mill used to crush material into a workable size to use in their flotation system to retrieve metals from it's slurry ! They used steel or granite . I used to work at a Cement plant as a labor and operate the crane to lift tubs of these into the massive barrels to crush before added into the slurry !

I like the finds and the landscape pictures. It's hard to imagine living in a house in such a barren location. The foundation seems to indicate that was once the case.

Thanks! It was dark red, almost black. I cleaned it up.

There were many of those stone foundations, almost like a little town. I agree, I can't fathom living out there!
Surprisingly, they had electric lighting as there were lots of light bulb bases all over.

It was a really fun day, but the best part is seeing how you found those coins 🤨 🤣🤣

if you can head up to where the burn was, the ground will be bare like a black asphalt parking lot and stuff, agates, pet wood, points... will be just sitting there. I know because I have done this before.
