BETHANY BEACH
When I got to Bethany Beach, I got a shock. A nor’easter had hit three days before we arrived and totally removed the beach. The was the water was right up to the edge of what was left of the dune. The beach accesses were all closed because there was a 7 foot drop it the sand. There was no way to get to the beach without walking a mile to find a beach access that was open.
I did have a few spots off of the beach that I could detect so I did those and did OK.
I spent 5.5 hours swingin the CZ and found 105 coins with a face value of $8.67, some cheapie jewelry including a ring, a key, a pencil end, a piece of .40 mm traveling band from WW2, a hat pin back, a cloth covered button, some foil and 10 tabs. Nothing special.
REHOBOTH BEACH
Rehoboth Beach looked like it was OK. A lot of the beach was gone, but there was still a decent amount of beach left. I got out and started detecting and wasn’t getting any signals. When I looked at the dune fence I could see that the dune fence was at least half covered with sand when you could normally see the entire height of the fence free of the sand. So instead of clearing things so we could find deep stuff the storm put sand 2 feet on top of everything.
I did manage to find a few pieces of traveling band and two pennies on the beach, but that was all. I spent the rest of my time working on the walkovers and in the sand along the edge of the boardwalk.
In 3.0 hours of swingin the CZ21 I found 21 coins with a face value of $0.85, 2 pieces of WW2 .20 mm traveling band , a wheatie, an angel, a cord ends, a thank you tag, 1 tab and a little foil. Again nothing special.
OCEAN CITY
There is a lot of beach here, but the wind drifts the sand and they bring in heavy equipment to move the sand around. They also move targets all over the place, so it can be hard to find good spots. I went hoping that I’d have better luck than I did it Bethany and Rehoboth.
On my first trip I could see dig spots and coil prints in the sand where someone else had been there recently. The second time I went it had been very windy overnight and the sand drifted. I was trying to find some good spots and when I started getting into a decent area the heavy equipment showed up and started moving sand right where I was working grrr.
In 10 hours of swingin the CZ21 I found 80 coins with a face value of $5.23, assorted jewelry, a toy train car, a knife, foil wrappers, whole aluminum cans and 39 tabs.
The ring is silver and is a Pandora ring with czs all around the edges. The one earring is also silver. The greenish blue stones are fake. It still has the earring back on it.
The knife is a Kershaw number 7951. It retails for $249.99. It is an automatic knife. Just press the button and the blade pops out. Press the button again and you can fold it closed. I found a lot of sites with it on sale and the cheapest was $144.50. This one has signs of wear so not brand new, but still a nice knife.
OCEAN CITY PARK
I found a park close to our hotel that has 4 sports fields and pavilions. I did some detecting around the edges of 2 of the sports fields and found lots of coins, but not many other things not even ferrous targets.
In 5 hours of swingin the CZ21 and found 167 coins with a face value of $12.49, a wheatie, a small buckle, 3 dog tags, a piece of cheapie jewelry, 2 sinkers, an ace bandage fastener, a little foil and 16 tabs.
One of dog tags is for Ocean City 1983. The middle one is an ID tag for MIA with her owners info on the back. The last is from Fairfax Virginia 2017.
Nothing great, but the gas money was good.
NON DETECTOR FINDS
Bethany has more cool Halloween decorations again this year.
A katydid landed on my finds bag and I found him when I took the bag off after a hunt.
A common starling and a house sparrow hung around while we were eating lunch on the boardwalk hoping for crumbs.
There was a flock of black skimmers on the beach at ocean city along with one of the pieces of equipment moving the sand. This one uses a drag to smooth the sand after another one with a blade on the back moves piles around.
I only found one beat up penny walking the parking lots at the outlets. I found 7 pennies, a dime, a battery and an aluminum Miraculous Medal in the coinstar. One of the pennies is a 1940 wheatie. I also found 4 quarters in the coin return of a soda machine.
A great week for clad. A nice knife and a little silver made it even better. Thanks for looking, stay safe, good luck and may your coil lead you to good things.
