Took advantage of another short day at work and did some swinging. I tracked down another land owner this AM and got the go ahead on a couple sites on their farm. The first site ended up being built over and all that was left was the barn area. I found a well and hunted nearby for an hour or so and called it quits. On to site #2. Pulled out the GPS and started walking for a half a mile through the fields. Made it to the waypoint and turned on the machine. spent 15 minutes wandering around in circles and couldn't find an iron patch. Moved down the hill a bit towards the creek and boom...iron patch galore. This was a large site and I dug alot of iron for what I came out with. My first good target was the 1830 LC. I thought this is going to be good. :laughing7: I kept a swinging and dug some suspender clips , a matching pair. That's only happened for me twice. I dug the open hole thimble and remembered seeing someone else dug one here on Tnet recently. Then came the wedding band and what I believe to be a shoe buckle frame :dontknow:. Last but not least came the small padlock body missing the shank. Pretty cool little lock, never found one that small. It got really hot fast and the sun was cooking so I had to bail out. I will be baccccck.

That is the way you do it Colonially, Bill! Could you show a picture of the reverse of the shoe buckle frame? If there are pin terminals, you got one. :icon_thumleft: Hit it hard, my friend!

You are off to a good start this year sir.

I love those old suspender clips, excellent digs!!!

Hell yeah, that's a shoe buckle frame! I got mine with you over break, and you just dug one about the same size! Heck yes! That is one OOOOOLD site my friend. There will be some more goodies to come from there.

The little round, flat disc with the design is a hinge from an old wooden ruler, I think.

Cheers,

Buck

Excellent finds HB.

Definitely not a hinge to a ruler, if you could hold it you would see its an early lock.
I will be going back ;D

Thanks Doug, have you been digging lately?

Good lookind diggins HB, Have you tried out the peroxide bath on
any of your coppers?

Nice digs. How many LC's does that make for 2011? We need to find a couple more 1/2 cents this year. You know, Buckleboy has never found one of those. ;D I'd pound that site til you think you've got everything out of it, and then hit it one more time. :icon_thumright: I'm gonna go try to find the rest of that 1853 Enfield in a few days. That will make the 4th time at that site.

That's 4 LC's for me this year, as far as the Half Cents go that may be a bit challenging as rare as they are to find around here.
Good luck finding the rest of the Enfield. You need to check out my button post from the day before this one, I dug an Ibex button too.

An early lock. I'll be darned! I can see the hole for the key, just thought it was part of a swivel hinge...well and the design is way cool (the design makes sense now).

Neat find, HB!

Those are some great photos, too. Those dirt photos keep my blood pumping. There's another LC or a Spanish at that site waiting for ya. Every site that a shoe buckle has come from has had a nice coin find waiting.
