Spent the last couple of hours of sun light finishing the area which the crop marks extended to on the Hill Top Field. We will be back after next harvest.

Dad bumped into the local night hawker (we know him as he pesters us on the fields). He found a gold celtic on this field but after telling the resident detectorist (not met him yet), he got so annoyed that he had a gang of 14 detectorist clear the site. So it seems they have finished with it. We are happy to have their left overs. Nearly 50 Roman coins & the nicest brooch I will ever find  I knew it had been picked through.

4 Roman coins
17th century token
1 tired arm

I have convinced dad to hit the new field hotspot tomorrow before the crop shows. We won't have long but we will have fun :)

Its a whatzit. The top is square & has a round hole with a screw thread though it :icon_scratch:

tie pin? the one that go through your collars :icon_scratch:

Well then the silver thing has to be a wing nut, but what a nut. Would like to see what it was attached to back then.
The button on the second photo, you know the one with the Dutchman on it (riding a bike) is really keen.....
So, now, where to now?

Its the Norfolk Regiment Button with seated Britannica.

Tomorrow is the hotspot, then we will look & prioritise.

the whatzit is a third of a jewelry pivot, two of those items with a pin or axle made an entire pivot.

i have a complete one around here somewhere. the one i have was attached to a modern pocketwatch chain.

I'll guarantee if you went back tommorrow you'd still pick up a few Roman's and some whatsit's,The farmer at Antietam Battlefield told me I was 40 yr.'s too late......I now have 2 full bookcase's full of CW history.....You just have that "knack" Crusader......HH!!

Magboy or Maggie might be on the list of names. Don't want anyone showing me up & I may need an iron clearing service when I'm old. I only want to bent for the good stuff.

i was going to say get magboy/maggie an eldorado, but to be fair i think i had the disc too low for my machine on the day :icon_scratch: as you can tell by my more recent finds :D

i did dig an unusual amount of iron, even for me! i was keeping the disc low for the hammered coins :tard:

Funny how with some photos you see other things, now that you say Britannica I can see that.
What I saw was two bike wheels (white arrows) and a sort of staff (yellow arrow).....

Sometimes when you make a photo and look at it on your computer screen you see it in the negative, well not exactly negative but what I mean is that the high points in the photo are low points. Then later when you look at it again you see it normally and can't adjust your eyes back to the other view... do you know what I mean?

You sure search a lot (every day), when do you get time to work?

Keeping it low (Disc) is the right approach, but I forget how much mine masks out (even very low). When you get used to the sounds more (& I had no idea on yours, I thought a nail sounded good), you maybe able to leave them. Or get a Cortes ;D

Woody,
I work Flexi-time, so make up my hours as & when needed

unfortunately the cortes has been put on hold for a while so im stuck with mine for now :(

i have just been out with it and the only way to tell the difference between large iron and good stuff is to lift the coil! if it still registers at anything over 4" its probably iron. everything sounds the same appart from the obvious "clicky" iron >:(

i really need a cortes ::)

Found one on ebay for you, the bidding is now at $158... Not bad, sending you the link.

Some very interesting items. How much of an issue are Nighthawkers in the UK. Not really an issue in Australia but here a farmer could argue that he thought he saw a Kangaroo on his crop and took a shot or two.

Its a big issue & one of the reasons I try extra hard to clean up our image.
