Spent the last couple of hours of sun light finishing the area which the crop marks extended to on the Hill Top Field. We will be back after next harvest.

Dad bumped into the local night hawker (we know him as he pesters us on the fields). He found a gold celtic on this field but after telling the resident detectorist (not met him yet), he got so annoyed that he had a gang of 14 detectorist clear the site. So it seems they have finished with it. We are happy to have their left overs. Nearly 50 Roman coins & the nicest brooch I will ever find  I knew it had been picked through.

4 Roman coins
17th century token
1 tired arm

I have convinced dad to hit the new field hotspot tomorrow before the crop shows. We won't have long but we will have fun :)

Some very interesting items. How much of an issue are Nighthawkers in the UK. Not really an issue in Australia but here a farmer could argue that he thought he saw a Kangaroo on his crop and took a shot or two.

Its a big issue & one of the reasons I try extra hard to clean up our image.

Yes it is for sure a big problem. There are many cases where a farmer 'would' be willing to let you search his lands, but won't because the nighthawkers have messed things up in the past, and he lets no one search anymore. But we have been sometimes lucky because we know a few farmers for a large number of years, and they know or get to trust you. And from one farmer you get another. We have now a number of large farms, along with the surrounding areas, where we are the only ones allowed to search anymore.
