We saw the farm manager today & he explained that it was too wet to do the 8 inch turn, which is why it's just disced up.
Knowing they are planning a deep plough next year we will grid the best area & get as much shallow stuff as possible & clear all the nails etc. So that next year we can see what come up & save this lot from going back down.

Stupid question time...would I be better to use distilled water to wash the mud off, I'm thinking the chemicals in tap water are dulling the coins I wash.

Yes you would but I don't bother.

That was a huge jar. There must be a lot of them still sticking in the ground with the rim cut off by the plough... You got some hobnails too. Good day!
