I managed to get out for an hour tonight in between storms. The ground was saturated and the while day has had a overall gloominess to it. We live in a fairly old railroad town in Upstate NY. We decided on a local funeral parlor after getting asked to leave one of my old favorite spots that has apparently changed owners... Sniff 
Well shortly after getting out of the van I had a decent signal on the XLT. Out popped this nice little rosy dime. Not a bad start.....Next dig was a wheat cent followed by a 2003 Quarter at 8 inches. This had me scratching my head as this yard has NEVER been messed with. My next signal was 3 inches off the edge of the road and pinpointed at 1 inch. Out of the ground comes a quarter sized coat button. It appeared at first glance to be a General service button..... After getting back in the van I took a closer look. It is not a general service.... It says NYC & HRRR on the front. The back is slightly corroded so I am unable to read the back until I do some salvage work on her. However the front is in beautiful shape.
I am assuming that it means New York Central and Hudson River RailRoad. I may be wrong.....if any has any info on this button it would be great. I am also curious of the value. I had a few old train lanterns I asked arounnd what theu were worth. Needless to say everyone said 10-20 dollars and after my ebay fees and paypal fees I walked away with 400$. So.... thanks for reading!
