I have helped my local historical society (at their 1830’s preserved farm) over the last couple of years with artifact identification/preservation, artifact recovery (metal detecting...) and aerial photography.

I was asked to stop by recently to detect around the spring house and one field as they are targeted for significant preservation rebuilds. (As always, everything is marked and tagged for their collection)
Lots of trash around the spring house.

But the field was previously a yard for the farm helpers simple home.

Also did some electrolysis and wax preservation of a few items for their collection. Before/after pics

Made it out yesterday to a cellar hole nearby wanting to try the Beach1 again.
Loads of shotgun head stamps and then a nice 25-25 squeak. First silver coin from this site.

Then got a nice 17-17, fairly strong, but not too strong. Intriguing signal.

Ended up doing some careful cleaning.

It is definitely “gold filled” as it is not flaking, but brass showing through the engraved areas. Still an unusual piece for me.
Here is the handful and my first ox knob or hane.

And to go with the gold “heart breaker” theme...

Good luck out there!
