Holly cool, totally unexpected with lots of pic's.

Well hit a new spot and found a bunch of new stuff till I found these two things.
It is very heavy and thought it was silver but after a little cleaning I see gold.
Could this be a gold lock?
and some kind of coin..

Need to clean it up and see, any tips?

Nice Find. But, the coin looks like a zinc penny. Those things erode so quickly it is amazing.

When you look close at the scratches there is gold.

That would be a cool find. I hope it is. You should probably take that to a professional for cleaning.

Regardless of what metal it's made from, that lock is stunning, totally cool! :occasion16::wav::occasion16:

Could be brass or could be pot metal with thin layer of silver or similar applied to surface. I guess if you found it at a king's castle, it could even be solid gold, :laughing7: . Let us know what you find out about it. I dug an ornate, sturdy woman's purse frame which was pot metal with thin silvery layer on surface - pretty sure not actually silver but nice.
Have Fun! :cat: Andi

Who knows,,,going to take it to a pawn shop to have it checked out. I does not have a brass smell or taste, and very heavy.
I know where Ifound it and there was something next to this hole. dug a little but did not find it. I'll go back tomorrow and see what the other thing is...

Looks like no rust on it just tarnished like crazy.

Thanks for sharing...

Hey Rock, It appears to be an antique brass door lock plate to me, missing the keyhole cover that would have been mounted to the swivel sockets. Very cool find! Sub 8-)

Im headed back to the spot now, please stand by.

Has to be brass. Gold wouldn't look that grungy coming out of the ground and it would clean up nicer than that.

looks like the door latch/lock to an early 1900's ice box refrigerator

Very decorative lock/latch plate! Nice! Hope you find the other piece.

All gave some , some gave ALL

Gold doesn't tarnish, it has to be brass, very cool piece none the less!

Currently on Ebay as a brass icebox latch. (there are some with key locks as well).
