I headed back for 3hrs yesterday to an old homestead site that I found through map research last fall. I've been back here at least twice this spring but the ground had been very quiet. :icon_scratch: Late last week while driving by I noticed that the soil had finally been turned but hadn't been planted yet, so I decided to give it another go and am I ever glad I did! My first interesting find was the crotal bell, followed by an 1850 Upper Canada Penny, I then found yet another Queen Victoria Memorial Medal. This is the second one to come up from this site and it couldn't have been more appropriate having been found on Victoria Day! (See the attached picture of how it originally looked) I also made a couple of 'first time finds' yesterday, a maker marked clay pipe bowl and the round brass relic with two holes in it pictured just above the brass wedding band is a two-tube burner for a whale oil lamp. :hello2: Another find of interest was the triangular brass relic with the pyramid in the middle, I have no idea what this is and would like to hear your suggestions. :dontknow:

Thanks very much for looking,
Dave

Fantastic finds and congrats - thank you for sharing your pictures and story with all of us. Hope you will go back to the old homestead site for more dirt fishing and post more finds.

Looks like you found a great site. You have years of swinging ahead of you. Congrats on digging those keepers and relics. :occasion14:

Very nice Dave. For some strange reason I like the whale oil burner. I don't recall having seen any whale oil lamp parts before.

The other relics and coins are very nice.

The Masons liked pyramids.

Best of luck to you sir!

Great hunt Dave, you got some interesting stuff there. You're inspiring me to try ploughed homesteads again.

Just think, what's still waiting there, just a little too deep for now.
Looked like a great hunt!

Nice.......I love field hunting

Thanks very much Ed, if we get some rain before Sunday, I'll definitely head back!
It's been a very dry spring here in the east, hope you're doing well in Texas!
Dave

If the finds turn up in the quantities like they did after the last soil turn, this site will produce for a long time. :hello2:
Alas, this site is slated for commercial development in the next few years.

Hi Tom! :hello:

I too have never found any pre-kerosene lighting hardware before, it's only due to the fact that I collect early lighting and oil lamps that I recognized this piece when I found it.
I still have yet to get a definitive answer on what the 'mystery pyramid' piece might be? :icon_scratch:

Best of luck to you my friend
Dave

Thanks for your post and for your support Cache! :icon_thumleft:
I like to detect plowed fields on the periphery of farm sites, these would see the most traffic with folks traveling in and out of the fields on a regular basis.

Thanks for your post mac! :occasion14:
This site definitely warrants a return visit after a good soaking of rain! :laughing7:

It's so true, you just never know what will turn up! :dontknow:
My favorite field finds are the 'eyeball' finds!
