Well first I'd recommend not folding your wallet again

Very good question! You know what I would do, others not so much. They would probably say it's that persons fault for not knowing what bill they gave you and it serves them right and blah blah blah

All this money is in circulation. Passes through many hands all the time. Anyone along the way can cherry pick it while it is in there possession. If you don't pass that bill, did you rob the clerk? Your pal certainly intended to spend it. Perhaps you deprived some bill searcher years down the road?
