Hope they don't try to take my new GUN!!!

Hi there fellow t-netters. I found this a few weeks back at an old homested that is now a bean field. It was a overload signal that I could'nt pass up. I'm hopin for sum HELP with it. It's 4 and 1/2 inches long and looks to be a black powder boot pistol. It has a name on it but a plow mark goes right through it. The letters are A.S with HER below it. The mark cuts off the rest of the name but there looks like the letter C way past the a.s up top. There are numbers on the handle,9350 and they look like OLD style #'s. I wood also like to know what to seal it with. THANX for any help and for lookin.. HH

Is that a pepperbox?

I think you'd be safe as long as you don't try to get a 500 round clip for it. ;)

Really nice find!

HH!

Wow awesome find!!! Volcanic pistol?

The lettering is A.S.T. CO. HERO. it's A.S.T. Co. first model HERO, a .34 caliber boot/muff pistol (I also found some websites that say that some HEROs were .41 caliber), it was made between 1868-1873, the manufacturer is The Manhattan Fire Arms Manufacturing Co., who later changed their name to American Standard Tool Company.

The number is the serial number.

Fishstix,

Your welcome.:hello:

You may want to contact the guy at the Manhattan Firearms website, he does ask for anyone to send him pictures of any Manhattan gun that they have, he also maybe interested in the fact that your HERO pistol has a serial number of 9350 since on his site he estimates that the A.S.T. Co. first models HERO pistols serial numbers start at 11,000!!

He also maybe able to tell you the best process for keeping your pistol from deteriorating any more than it is.
