I picked this up today, not off the ground, but at a yard sale. The guy had lots of cool stuff that I like, old things. I bought several things and bundled them together for $112, so I don't know what I have into this piece, but it's less than $10. He said he found it in the Ohio river. I'm thinking this is a hopewell culture celt. It has a polish to it, but not super shiny. It is smooth and nice to hold, about 4 3/8" long, about 1" thick, and just under 2" wide at the bit, 1 1/8" wide near the other end. It's dark charcoal color with tan/brown speckles. The bit end seems to have less speckles, more shine, and maybe be a denser portion of the stone. What do you think? Does it look right, and is my conclusion about type correct? Thanks!
