I stopped at a yard sale this afternoon and saw the man was selling money.
He showed me two coins i was very interested in and i bought the cheaper one.
It is a new state quarter with a head on both sides and the intersting thing is, one side has a d mint mark while the other side has a p mint mark.
I gave $8.00 for it, he wanted $13.00.
Is it possible for this coin to be real, or did i buy something fake?
The other coin i was intested in was a sacewagea dollar coin with an eagle on both sides. He wants $20.00 for it.
Should i buy it, or could it be a fake?
Let me know soon so i can buy the sacewagea if its real.

I would say fake in both cases.

I think we need to see pictures of it.

Is it legal to sell fake money if indeed it is fake? If he advertises them as novelty items that is one thing, but if he is selling them and advertising that they are legal tender that is another. You might want to contact your local Secret Service office and ask them.

I would say fake. Possibly two coins cut then attached to each other.

If this coin was legit, it would be rare and would be worth alot more than he is asking. Had it sent it to a grader such as PGS and they slabbed it and verified it was real, then you would have something there. I have lots of coins that are "fake" but used in coin illusions. Hope this helps.

I took txbluzman's advice and contacted the secret service and they will be here in the morning to check on this coin and if indeed it is a fake, they will be taking it and possibly executing a search warrant on the mans house that sold me the coin.
It is indeed a federal offense to sell the coins that have been drilled out and put back together.
I will update you all tomorrow about what happened.
Thanks for helping one of your own out,
allen

I would think it is impossible to have two different mint marks on the same coin.

That would be fun if you got to keep it. I'd throw it in a field prior to hunting with my buddies and let one of them find it!

Remember the movie "Indecent Proposal." I believe Robert Redford had a two headed coin in that. I would have kept it an used it in a coin toss. you could have gotten your money back quickly!

Yeah buddy it does sound like a fake. If it were real it would have to be stamped on one side in Denver and then sent to Philadelphia to have the other side stamped. Or the other way around anyhow. Neat coin though. Guess the fellow might have a little explaining to do :o

Have a good one

Read some place where some guy was machining coins in half then gluing them together. Not sure but I think he was instructed to stop or face jail time.

I would have to have pictures to be able to help you. Maybe he just smashed the coins together so it would look like something worth $20.

hold the coin up to the bathroom mirror close enough to photograph both sides..........Take a picture of the front while you can still see the back....hold it with a pair of tweezers or pliers.....if your fingers are too big....good luck....HH

other wise it is just a novelty coin.....
