Found this today and I tried to match up the pattern to known Equus horse teeth but the pattern on this tooth does not match up. At least i don't see it . I have other horse teeth, but this one does not look like any of them This tooth is the largest I have found in width and I was wondering if maybe there are 2 or 3 thin teeth in this one find. Any ideas? I have found horse, camel llama and dugong in this same area. Hope the pics are okay, my camera is giving me problems, it doesn't like the sand much!

That's a piece of mammoth tooth. Notice how the enamel comes in horizontal 'folds'. Mammoth teeth are very fragile, and they crumble easily; be careful with it. Congrats!

Here is one of mine for reference:

The find is a fragment of mammoth tooth. Good beach find!

Sand + camera = trouble. Good luck!

Woo hoo!! FINALLY something besides horse!! I am so happy to hear its a mammoth!! Great news! No wonder I could not match it, because I was thinking bison or even camel !! I cannot get it any cleaner but once it dries I will use the duco recipe on it so it won't break down. Thanks everyone!!

NICE ONE. If that came from your normal spot that's great! This came from there too.

Yep usual place. Yours is nice too. Looking for a new spot these days, I hear a concrete wall was approved so it is just a matter of time before they close it up.

Wow..that stinks. Thanks for the info!

Do you have any more info on that? If so can you p.m. it to me. Do you know the last time there was a construction project on that place silver coins from the late 1500's to early 1600's came up?

Gator when I hear more I will let you know. It was approved this year, so hopefully it will take them eons to actually bring it to completion. Once they start I am sure the whole area will be off limits and that will be depressing. Our country does not allow any kind of beach activity after sunset either. Been researching the material the area is made of, to see where else they used it on our side of the state. I know of another place but no one can get in-it's one of those you have to know someone deals. They have been arresting anyone who trespasses.
