Decided to get myself out of bed early today, despite the temptation for a New Year's 'Lie-In'.

Went to a little spot on the edge of Wolverhampton, known locally as Penn Common. It is adjoined by a nice golf course, and on the common itself, there is a fair bit of history, having had quite a few farm buildings over the years.

It is also very popular amongst horse lovers, and they are kept on, and ridden over the common.

I tackled just one field today, mostly around the perimeter fence where one would expect to find the odd tool or coin.

Tools... not a sniff. But a few coins came out eventually, and what looks like part of a Horse Bridle, plus the obligatory dog-tag!

I also have a new 4-legged friend who shadowed me almost constantly, and showed more than a passing interest in the Ace 250!!!! ;D

I will be back there next weekend, when I plan to attack it a little more methodically, and hopefully have more to show you. ::)

Nice start to 2008 Steve !

Seems your new huntin partner wants to swing a coil ! Can he dig ? :D

D.

Yeah done a few fields where I keep my horse, so I know what they are like, LOL.

Systematically is the way to go. It may take until day 3 but the silver will come. I just got my first one from the park. Took me 4-5 days & over 200 coins.

The signs are good with the halfpenny. Should be a nice shilling out there somewhere :)

Yes... I got a good feeling about these fields, I can see me spending a weekend or two on them. ;)

Forgot to say, that horse looks like the twin of mine.

Great post, love the horse!!!

Great job on the coins and stuff!! Horses are so nosey. They always wanna be in your business. I just love them. ;D

The horses are just great, and so amusing..... but people on the common who allow their dogs to run loose, terrorising these animals ought to be flogged. >:(

Hello from Tennessee,
Nice looking horse. That halfpenny looks to be in great shape.
Looking forward to seeing more posts from you.
Thanks for the pic's.
Tennessee Joe

Looks like a great start to the new year, Congrats!
That horse looks like he might have been a cat in his former life, he seems to be very curious about the machine, as well as the camera... ;D
Continued Good luck, & Happy hunting~

I do believe that horse was a treasure hunter in another life... LOL
Great looking penny.

Nice first hunt! HH, Mike

Looks like this post has turned into a fan club for the darned horse...!!!!

He seems to approve.....
And I'll likely be joining him again tomorrow for some hunting, just hope he's got his own MD this time! ;D
