How can I get the most out of ferrous sounds in nail infested areas?

Ferrous is not my preference, but it's pretty basic. Low discrimination and dig all sounds that are higher than the iron hits. These are like combination type sounds if you know what I mean.... so you listen close, the more something is masked the more subtle the higher tone will be.
