How long...

would it take for a piece of bone to become partially petrified? I found a piece yesterday and it seems to be at least partially petrified. It was for sure cut to length, then split/cut down the middle. I am in Missouri and never found a piece that was intact. I will post pics in the next day or so. Any ideas?
