I have a chance to get ahold of a sovereign elite. I know it is a great deal but I want to make sure it will be right for me. I coin shoot mostly but relic hunt from time to time. I have never owned a multiple frequency machine before. It comes with some accessories including extra coils and a meter but, I am not concerned about that at the moment. What I am concerned with is, how long of a learning curve did some of you guys have? How many tones does it have. Is this a good machine for hunting on dry land because I have noticed they seem to be used on the beach more so than like where I live in Tennessee. I have had great machines in the past with a bit of a learning curve such as the whites spectrum eagle and xlt. I understand that this is a machine that you cannot go out there and start swinging like a tesoro or something but how slow do you have to swing?

get it....

try it out for a couple of weeks....keep it.....or if not put it up here on Tnet...

Elite is a nice machine...

The Sovereign was made to be used on land. Just so happens that it turned out to be a excellent beach and shallow water machine too. They really are not that hard to use. Don't be skeered of it. Once you get used to it, it's an easy to use machine. :read2:

I have never used a Sovereign but there's no reason it wouldn't be the same as an Explorer which proper swing speed and sweep length is based on the amount of trash/iron. So there is not one correct answer to that question. In fairly clean ground I can swing my explorer as fast as I want to swing with similar results as any other detector, but of course that's not where the finds are, so I find the iron and start to adapt how I hunt.

I just recently picked up a nice used Excalibur. I have only used Tesoros prior to this. I have had no problem and have found it simple to use. From the first time I turned it on I have found all kinds of things and continue to. Do a little research here on the forum and give it a try, I am sure you will have to problem with it.

Well thanks for the input guys. I have talked to the owner of it and have decided to go ahead and pick it up. It is so hot and dry right now that I probably will not fool with it too much except getting to know the machines features and see see how it reacts to coins and other relics I have already found. I must say I am looking forward to it, Thanks guys, Tim

.....The Elite is a good machine....probably just as good or better than the XS but more convenient since it has a drop-in type battery pack........the variable tones though can drive one batty....reminds me of the old Model T AAAOUUUGAAAAA Horns......I am a bit tone deaf so a lot of the tones sound very similar so to compensate for this I got one of the meter's and it helped a lot to identify the actual target....like the nickel and the pulltab sound alike but are different on the meter.......GOOD LUCK...Joe

Well today I got my sovereign elite package. It included the following;
Sovereign elite detector with 10" tornado coil(I guess this was the stock coil) Machine only shows minor wear and coil cover does not even have normal scratches from searching
8" Tornado coil(never used)
8" Sunray coil(barely used)
Sovereign meter(never used)
1 Hip mount bag(never used)
1 bag to go around shoulder(never used)
1 Nicad with charger(still works great)
1 8aa battery box
1 extra arm cuff
1 set of Whites headphones
Plus all paperwork and boxes
He has a bad shoulder and cannot use it, nearly kills him to swing it. He now uses tesoros. He was asking 450.00 for it but I traded him my cz-75 pistol for it that I got ahold of about a year ago at a real good price(way less than 450.00)....................Tim
