......banners do you or your "crew" have. lately i've noticed crusader and his dad have just made thier 6th....so are these guys the leaders? or do you have more?.....moderator...feel free to move this post if not in the proper forum

I think they're the most frequent ones to grace the banner.


I've been up there three times in the past year and a half, but I don't know if I'm second place in terms of banner or not.


To be honest I don't really care that much to look...

i was just curious to see if the same people made banner over and over or is it more spread out evenly among the membership..also has team effort resulted in more banners or individual effort ....i have no idea who has the most, i just noticed crusader coming up a lot lately and asked him how many times he made it and he said it was both him and his dad's finds...also i was wondering if where crusader is located(UK) had anything to do with the totals...due to the fact of the age of some of his artifacts...when he said 6 i felt that wasnt really alot....i thought he would have had more...so thats the reason for my asking

Well, Crusader lives in the UK, and thats where all the good finds are, I always look for his posts because you never know what he`ll post next. Seeing his finds is almost like going to a museum.
The history of the US only goes back a few hundred years, when he UK goes back thousands!!
They had troops marching and fighting all over the place over there, so anything could be anywhere.
When i hunt fields over here Im more likely to find indian artifacts then coins.

I think you're over-analyzing this...

But, I would certainly think that group efforts might mean more Banner finds over time--although each person would get to post their own finds.  I've been lucky in that I do most of the research for my team--although I have them go to the door and get permission a good bit nowadays...  But I've made the banner finds for my team this year--although any one of them could've found any of those things at any point in time.  

So, I think it's just happened to be a good year for me.

P.S.--prolab69, if you think that all the good finds are in Europe--I'll have a year-end wrap-up post for your viewing pleasure in a little over two months... 

I agree about the age of finds there--but age doesn't always equate to value. Let's face it, anyone can make a GREAT find just about anywhere, at anytime--if they know where to look.

I've been on once but haven't been here too long. Had the banner and I been around since I started detecting I think I have at least a dozen or so finds that would have made it... but is hard to say for certain because it seems some good stuff gets left out. That being said it is a great thing and adds fun to the forum.

not that I care or anything, but ive seen the banner made with less. But like i said, I think ive done quite well for my area. And I dont do it worrying about a banner find, I do it to relax, get out of the house, and add a little bit to my collection and retirement fund.

I don't have any idea why you never made the banner...but you did do very well.

I think the main reason my CW buckles made the banner this spring was that we found Three of them in one day.

Hi everyone,

When you said 6, I thought you meant gold coins, so thats why my answer (on my post) makes no sense.

Anyway, I as you say I have an advantage as I post for 2 & we are like a well oiled machine. Since joining the forum we have been building year on year & always wonder how we can beat it next year. Thinking it won't be possible, but we keep pulling it out the bag!

It helps that we are obsessive about it & if it wasn't for the support of my better half it would not be an easy life (If you understand what I mean).

This for me is not a competition (only with the plough & chemicals) to get the best finds & make the banner. Its much more than that, which needs no further explaination (I think most of us understand).

I have made the banner for things which by UK standards I probably never should have, but on the whole I have agreed they are banner worthy. Having said that, there are plenty of UK detectorist that kick my butt, time & time again. Some legally & many illegally. I'm as I have said before, just above average.

I've never made the banner but it does add something to shoot for. I enjoy all the finds I make and the banner does not change that but it is nice to be recognized by your peers.

Did I mention I'm the lead story in Novembers Lost Treasure - Treasure News...lol.

Can an administrator explain to me what gets on the banner and from where on the forum, maybe only Today's finds?

How are they choosen, by Poll or ??
Or can they come from other places on the forum?
Do they have to be valuable or rare or unique?

Just can't find this information anyplace but maybe not looking correctly either...

Members can nominate a find on the left side of the post but I believe it is just up to the moderators discretion.

It can be because of the value, uniqueness, quantity or restoration done. For instance if you find a Walking Liberty Half dollar it will not make the banner unless it was a very valuable mint error or it was made out of solid gold or it was with 1000 other Walking Liberty Half dollars when you found it.
