Being new to this forum I don't really understand how items get choose for the banner.

Can an administrator explain to me what gets on the banner and from where on the forum, maybe only Today's finds?

How are they choosen, by Poll or ??
Or can they come from other places on the forum?
Do they have to be valuable or rare or unique?

Just can't find this information anyplace but maybe not looking correctly either...

wow guys ...i didnt mean to open any wounds here....im sure plenty of finds have been passed over for a variety of reasons...i noticed that most of the ones i have seen had a value of $1000.00 or more and/or was unique....again i really only expected to see posts in reply that said "2 for me" and "we got 4"....im new here and didnt realize that this may be a sore spot...let me know and i'll delete the post....

Why delete it, you and I asked perfectly OK questions, I just wanted to know about how the banner works (not even thinking about every getting on there), and you just wanted to know who got the most finds put on the banner, just out of curiosity. Normal questions, with what I see as normal answers.

thanks for the replies you guys....i had a feeling that maybe some people were sore about not making banner with some of thier finds...while i agree it doesnt matter the age of an item...i feel more often than not people will nominate something they have never seen before...i was just curious to see if it made that much of a difference....me personally, and i think most others, base our nominations on value and rarity....

I made the banner twice in 2 weeks as some of you guys know. BuckleBoy, Iron Patch, Don in SJ, and some others helped me realize that making the banner is NOT what this forum and true treasure hunting is all about. To me it's finding history and relics. Even though I might make it again with the Ringo 25-83A, the interest that I see in other clubs, such as the C4, is more important to me. Digging around on the internet about the British Cartridge Belt Tip has been a great experience to find out about the history of this thing. Don't get me wrong, without this T-Net site and the people in it, I would not have the info on ALOT of my finds. The banner is nice but is secondary to the info and excellent advice I get from the members.

Quite honestly I couldn't give a stuff how much something is worth. The history & the fact I/Dad found it is more important. Clearly we like things that are very rare (but mostly inexpensive), but I'm always happy to find new things (whatever they are & how ever much they might sell for) even if its a button. I help several book writers & researchers on rare & even very common items to help them understand the variants which occur, & the distribution of the items. This is important as it help the collective knowledge of our history. I have already re-written the history books with items I have found. This is lasting & will continue past my death.

I agree with you completly Hogge (although I don't know what a Ringo 25-83A or C4 is), the banner is secondary. What and why I am here is to find out about my finds, what other people think of them (we are of course proud to have found them, but anyone could have if they were in that spot), and what they can tell me about them. To know what something is, or information about an find is what its all about and one of the most difficult things to find for most people. People specializing in certain things know much more and can tell us where to look for more information. The advice and information that we get about our finds is the most important part of the TN for us, I am very thankful for the information I have received here. I have also given some information about objects that I know more about, so I try to help also.

And yes, the value or worth of an object is of no interest to me other than maybe for insurance purposes, although I do not do that because its very expensive to take insurance (mostly because of necessary valuation papers that you need).

Agreed, you put it in different words but thats the way I think. If we were all like this, the world of Tnet would be a boring better place
