🔎 UNIDENTIFIED How old do you think this buckle is?

I can tell you got a military eagle button , looks civil war possibly but not 100 percent sure. Those buckles are probably mid 1800s-early 1900s

Maybe number 22. I don't think it's a batwing buckle just by it's shape

Yes I would have never guessed that one to be a shoe buckle, it does look like horse tack

So it's probably like 1880's1930's or so you would guess? I guess it would be kinda just like a batwing buckle then however same age period, i only ever found one. The batwing wasn't that deep, the big buckle and the smaller one however were pretty deep in the old soil line that is a different color. Would you guess it's like a shoulder strap or something or maybe a shoebuckle? This is the batwing here btw i found a few years back.

Oh and the story of the find is a few weeks ago i went detecting and got a oxen shoe, rechecked the signal and hole and about another 6 or so inches down was that buckle. Always recheck your dug holes otherwise i might have skipped over it. Then just a few days ago i went to the same spot and the smaller version of the buckle i found was a tough dig, underneath a tree basically but it was worth the patience. I kind of feel like the big one could of been the shoebuckle, and the smaller one same style and design could be a knee buckle? I'm guessing since it looks like it's a machine made buckle, they are definitely not colonial. This one however i think was hand made, probably a knee buckle i found a few years back.

Ok so i don't think it's horse tac, it's possible but mine looks different. The loop and pin is free to move up and down and on the buckle itself it seems like nothing snapped in placed like in the middle. Found this post here

"Yes I would have never guessed that one to be a shoe buckle, it does look like horse tack." I think that Ebay seller is wrong, to me it looks like a conway buckle as seen here
I have not found any evidence yet that it could be a shoebuckle, i think he bamboozled me. I suppose anyone can sell on ebay and to take ads with a grain or two of salt.

1900-1920 would be my guess, now that other one is a batwing and much older...not so sure on that one but it is cut or forged brass...very cool dude

also, a shoebuckle has inner parts called the tongue and chaffe and i don't see them in the batwing so prolly a strap slide of some sort maybe a rifle sling...rock on i haven't dug anything old in awhile with 5k an ounce for gold i have been hitting parks

I dig a ton of old shotgun caps, so a sling/strap slide for a gun makes sense. I just hit up fields and the woods mostly as it's the close by, and i like to explore and swing around at the same time. It's good being on the east coast, this one woman here i been watching dug a buckle from the 1600's, wowerz this one is on my bucket list. Predates the Salem witch trials
