how old is the detector you are using or what is the oldest one you use? has anyone noticed a decrease in performance throughout the years?
I use a 21 year old Eagle Spectrum
and a 20 year old Fisher CZ5
and a 17 year old GTA1000
and a 10 year old XLT that I don't like.

I don't know what I would replace them with but I am leaning toward Tesoro

Hmmm... Well I have a 3yr old Ace250, a 3yr old Tesoro Cibola, and a 6mo old Whites M6 Matrix. I like different machines and even some of the older ones are hard to beat.

A 18 year old Eagle Spectrum,, which can beat the pants off the new XLT's.
A 10 Year old Minelab Sovereign, Another great machine.
A 1 year old Tesoro Tejon.. you will dig deep with this one.
and a 20 year old Whites 5500D coinmaster.

As for decrease in performance, I have noticed it in the newer Whites machines. Reason, I think they are more just trying to dig up new sales to new hobbyist, and not concentrating on really building a killer machine.

My take on it: It's not really an increase or decrease in performance, it's a DIFFERENCE in performance. I can't go into a long explanation because of my current computer problems but there are SO many variables. Joe

My oldest one is an "EasyMoney Special", one I built back in about 1973.

Technology changes, things are made easier to use. Bottom line is you have to know your machine and how it preforms. I have a 20 year old Cutless that works and finds coins as well as the newer fancier machines.

I have a ~18 year old Vantage AD-14, and a 37 year old Metal Snooper by Tanner ;).

OK I don't use the Metal Snooper, but it does still work. 1-2 inch depth on a quarter in the air, baby!! FEAR ME ;).

.............3 year old Tigershark--great for the lakes, found lot's of gold with that one. Replace the batteries once, at the beginning of every season.
.............2-3 year old Tejon-----great for hunting yards, carnival sites & other iron infested areas I visit when the ground gets wet again.
.............2 year old Ace 250 for my kid--good little machine for the money, especially since used ones are selling for $125-$150.
.............25+ year old Compass 50-- used by the kids when they were real little, it's purpose was to get them hooked on the hobby. It hangs on the wall here now.
.............28 year old White's 6DB, an awesome ( breadbox detector ) in it's day. Founds lot's of silver within 5" using that one 27-28 years ago.
It still works great if you can afford to put the 14 AA batteries in it to use it! .............see ya mark
