I found this old whiskey bottle hidden in a wall some years ago. I've never done anything to it because the label is really brittle and I don't want to destroy it. Without the label, it's just another amber whiskey, so I'd like to preserve it if possible.

Just wondering if anyone has any knowledge of how to go about cleaning it up, softening the paper and reattaching it?

That old paper is very delicate. I have reattached loose corners and edges with watered down white Elmer's glue. Press the paper down. Do not rub it.

I personally wouldn’t mess with it. I’ve seen people plastic wrap the label area as an attempt to protect it from further damage.

I would leave it also it will give it personality.

And if you want to take it to the next level above that go get acid free archival glue. That will curb any damage from the glue over time. That being said, is it overkill? Yes probably
