Detector(s) used
Minelab X-Terra 50
I bought a Minelab X-terra 50 on Nov. 12 for a Christmas present and never opened the box to test it (the wife took it to wrap). Christmas morning I open it with much anticipation and to my suprise its a dud. Also anyone wanna guess on a turn around time?? I will keep you posted this might come in helpful on your next purchase.

They have limited staff on the weekends, and like any business they are swamped with people the day after Christmas, they have a lot of walk in business. I live in Orlando, been to their store many times, they are quite busy on regular weekends, I can only imagine what it is like the day after Christmas. If you walk in with one that isn't working they can take care of you then, unfortunately on orders shipped out it takes longer.......

Try them again on Monday.....

This still does not explain why he was not told immediatly that there was no tech support on the
weekend. and kept on hold for 45 mins.
do the operators on duty not know the policies of the company ?

Not making excuses for that at all.

I have the same problem with most business that I call. It is just the nature of the beast.... Want to get frustrated, try calling the local phone company about a problem on your billing or line, see how long you sit on hold and how many different people you go through trying to correct a billing issue.

I am speaking from experience, I work for a phone company. I arrived on a customer site to work on a phone issue, while there the business owner told me he was told by customer service on the phone that I could take care of the billing issue when I arrived....As a field tech we have no access to their accounts and can do nothing about billing issues, yet our customer service told the customer I could............It is a personnel issue.........Rep having a bad day, over worked, swamped with calls, poor training or any of a dozen other issues.....

I think most will tell you that $99 for a Cobra beach magnet is $99 WASTED, to begin with.
Hope it works out. Kellyco SHOULD replace the machine.....HH Gayle

Based on experience, they will tell you to send it to Minelab...they're just a distibuter...but thats just based on my experience. :P

Yeah but the idea is to distribute detectors that work. There's a big difference between issues after 6 months use, and bad right out of the box. If you bought a TV and got home and it didn't work should you have to send the thing away? Of course not.

They'll just switch it for a new one.

PS.... Not sure what's up with the Poll? Why would you want to deal with Minelab? It's Kellyco that sold you the bad unit, deal with them.

I agree Patch

Yes I believe this is in response to my post above. If I were in a store front and saw this Cobra Nagnet I wouldn't want to pay more that 99.99 for it either. Its a very cheaply made machine. i can't believe they can even sell them for 449.95.
That said I have to say the little time I spend with it, I feel it's made by Fisher over in there new Malaysia factory for Kellco. I have own a 1280x for 15 years and the shape is very much the same the battery o-ring is the same. The outer components are very cheaply made and curly built but I think the internal guts are based on the 1280x. It sound the same and even acted they same as the 1280x. I only bench tested it before it fell apart.

You might be ok. since they monitor this website and will not want the negative feedback. I prefer a smaller shop anyday no matter what I am shopping for. The quality of the service is well worth it even if you have to travel. Good luck

I hope they make it right... I am just a few miles down the road and an looking to get a soverign GT soon, so we'll see...

We bought a computor from Best Buy, the monitor went out, we had bought a service agreement for home repair or replacement. They sent us a box to return it, and sent us a different brand monitor and it was a refrubised one, not a new one,as our agreement stated. Needless to say, we'll never set foot in that store again.

Sounds like you gave up easy? If a store wants to screw me I'll make sure I waste some of their $$$/time by contacting them every day until they live up to what they agreed to.

If you are not happy with Kelly Co's response, contact Minelab directly.

Just another reason I choose to buy from a local store. Local is a stretch, as I have to drive 80 miles one way, but it is worth it.

I will be finding out in the morning. I hope and believe things will go well.

Matters: Call KellyCo and ask for "Margaret". Lie if you have to, and say you are "returning HER call". Margaret is a manager there and is very nice. She has called me several times and resolved a customer service issue I had with their "salespeople". She has the power to "OVERRIDE" 8)

well its monday morning... i hope this goes well for you!

It went good. They are sending me a shipping label today via email to return it NO HASSLE. But not sure what will happen from there its a x-terra 50 no longer made or in stock. There going to call minelab about a replacement etc. I will keep you updated

matters - I'm happy to see you've been taken care of thus far! If there's anything I myself can help you with, let me know! I'll pass along your comments about the phone call on Saturday, see if we can get to the bottom of that.

Regarding our return policy - yes restocking fees apply to machines that are used and are being returned because they are not wanted, or because you are trading up. We do not charge restocking fees on defective units. We also do not sell used units as new. Any machine that has been used and returned is sold as such and never as a new machine.

Thank you, B......As a Kellyco customer, I would not be happy to find a unit that I was sold as new, turned out to be a unit someone else returned after 2 weeks because they were not happy with it. I returned one myself after 3 days to Kellyco when I first started in the hobby and upgraded....I understood the restocking policy then and accepted the 20% restocking fee as the price of being happy with the detector I ended up with....

:hello2:This morning has been great I spoke with Kelly Co this morning. They have aready emailed me the shipping tag for return. Its out the door. Kellyco Chick has also been very helpful and I appreciate it very much. They just might end up with a lifelong customer. ;D

Kellyco is a great company they get quite a bit of calls everyday, I have been there a few times and the amount of calls plus people walking in the store is amazing, I have purchased many items from them because of the way they treated me from my first sale, And just last week i purchased a item then noticed a price difference and they immedately adjusted the price and im calling back monday to order a out of stock item and discuss another item im wanting to purchase that a different website has cheaper. I have made between 10-15 different orders the past 3 years and have been very happy with Kellyco and purchased 4 High priced Minelab Detectors from them with Zero Problems.Give Kellyco a chance they get very busy and they always seem to do the right thing.
