I hope to learn from your posts and maybe get some tips on local digging spots honey holes, nectar (as they say on tv).

Welcome to the forum! Perhaps you could contact one of the forum sponsors for a package deal, they are always willing to help.

You will need the following basic things: Metal detector (research the brands), Pin Pointer, finds pouch and digging tools.

I am sure many people will post other useful suggestions.

Regards,

Thank you professor!!
What may i inquire, in your experiene be a reasonable amount to spend to begin?
I appreciate fine tools, I dont want the bozo the clown starter set for $10.00 but at the same time im not qualified for a $4k package either.
i can safely say I have a few hundred dollars to spend on credit and hopefully make my payments with finds and prospecting for gems, im building a compact sluice and own a water pump and generator so im off to a fair start there.
I apreciate the response ;)
Michael ;)

Pouches i have, old nail pouches
Digging tools i have old cats paw nail pullers and large and small screwdrivers
I have a variety of hammers and masonry sledges in the 5 to 10 lb range with a small assortment of stone chisels
i have a generator, air compressor and air chisel too.
im mixing tools here.
Im looking to metal detect, mine, and pan using a home made sluice.
just fyi anyone wanting to add to needed tools
New set of knees, 1 hip 7 discs, oxygen condensor lol
Thanks and i look forward to finishing my list and getting started.

I know of a property that has been turned from a private school to a senior citizen community, there was a rock wall out front made from huge 40 lb rocks just smattered with bb size crystals of garnet, they are so hard to extract, the base stone is as hard as it gets, im going to sledge one to see if there are larger crystals inside, are the small ones worth anything?
Is there a way to extract the garnet without a sledge or damaging the garnets?
They are all the same size and small but several together could make a nice earing or pendant accent.
