I went out this past weekend to an early to mid-1800s home site and found the biggest flat button i've ever seen. It measures 1.334 in diameter on the caliper and has some design to it. I also found a thimble, another flat button, and a few other unidentified pieces. Any ideas what they may be? Thanks for looking.

Yeap, the curved bit is a 1700s shoe buckle bit.

Based on the button and the shoe buckle frag, your site goes back to the late 18th century. Those big "dandy" buttons are fun to find, especially when they have designs on them.

Thanks for the info!

Thats a big ole button , I know you where thinking coin when you found that one because of the size . Nice score !

Awesome dandy button. I would soft toothbrush and lemon juice that for sure. The gilt would just pop almost instantly I bet. If you do only go long enough to see the gilt shine then rinse it off with water. Here's just a example...ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1460494446.944715.webp

Thanks, I'll be sure to try that.
