Yes, the title is correct.

10 ounces of silver for $10.

We made this massive score at a flea market we stumbled into at an old engine show. The item was tucked away in a back shelf and wasn't getting any attention at all. It was a grey, tarnished dish which held four small cups of the same color. It seemed too good to be true for a minute. These were the markings we saw.

It had an inscription which was written in a foreign language, but it allowed us to date the piece: 1930

My brother, Kevin, decided to make the move and go for a purchase. The market owner bargained with him a bit and they ultimately agreed on $10. Fair price? Oh yeah...

Turns out the markings are Polish and that the entire set is made of 80% silver!

And here we are, ecstatic about our find :laughing7:

Beginners luck? Maybe. Will it happen again soon? Probably not. But at least we can enjoy it while it lasts!

Here's a video I put out today where we talk about the experience and give a few tips to anyone who wants to get into thrifting/picking. Thanks for looking everyone, and happy hunting!

Great score guy's.

That is neat. What does the inscription say?

That is one heck of a deal there!! Congrats!!!!

It is in Polish so we aren't entirely sure. It is written to a retired teacher on their "name day" which is sort of like a Polish birthday from what I understand.

Congratulations on the score. Sounds like you were in Copemish. If so did you check the thrift store a couple blocks over?

You guessed it! And we didn't. How did you know where we were? Are you an attendee of the Buckley Old Engine Show as well?

Sweet deal! Congrats from the Doc :occasion14:

Yep,, even at 80% silver,, that was a Real Score!!
Congratulations

Not OP, but I speak Polish. It says " To the Venerable Birthday Person/ I offer in memory of our shared work/ Teaching Faculty/ Jarosław [city in southeastern Poland] 29 January 1930"

slashes denote line break

One never knows what's sitting around on a shelf, good score.

Congratualtions on the huge silver score! :notworthy:

I find it Interesting that it was not confiscated by the nazis, It must have belonged to someone who escaped the war. He may have even used that set to trade for his safe passage out. You could try researching the name. Very cool find.
