I found this item during a hunt today of a virgin site. The unconfirmed story is there was a massacre at the location in the 1800s. I am not sure if this is a musket ball or not. It has the weight of a lead item, but seems very white for lead. This is the first item like this I have found and I found it as I was heading out of the area where I was trying to locate something to confirm the story of the massacre and since I was on a time frame for the day I did not have time left to shoot the area anymore to look for other items. (I will be doing that in the near future if the weather permits.)
The ball mics at .48 caliber and has a mark on it that would be consistent with a ram being used to load a rifle or musket and it has a couple of areas that appear to have damage that would be consistent with having struck something. It was found about six inches deep with my Fisher F5 and bounced from showing as a tab to zinc. After I recovered the item I checked it again and it showed as a tab.
Any ideas?
Thanks
