my husband decided he might like to try metal detecting so I let him use my bounty hunter, I was hesitant to say the lest since he loses interest in anything very quickly. I told him I was staying out even if he got sick of it.
My first signal was a real deep low beep and I had decided I would dig everything
at about 8 inches I see a little shine, oh boy can I hope for my first dug silver of the season, yep. It turned out to be a 1957 quarter in very good shape. I thought ah my birthdate this is a good luck sign. Well I dug and dug many bottle caps and pull tabs before I got another coin. I look over at my husband and he is bored and just standing there and I thought to myself to bad I'm going to enjoy myself. I guess we were there about 2 hours and I ended up finding 4 modern pennies and a 1939 nickel, also about 15 bottle caps, a ski boot buckle and a couple odd pieces of metal. He found one pull tab. This site was very detected in the 60's so I think finding silver was great. I decide I've had enough and start detecting back to the car and he is impatient, I tell him some of the better finds you get heading out. So he isn't so bored I asked him to dig my holes for me, boy was that the wrong thing to do. The third hole he dug I could see he just wanted to leave and he is reefing on my $30.00 digger and he broke it in half, I just can't believe it. Now if I want to go out I have to get another digger, you bet he's buying and I'm not taking him with me again, I'd rather hunt by myself even though it's not a good thing for me to do. So the hunt started out on a high note and ended on a real sour one.

MCAMBY, Nice Finds, Congrats. My Wife Sometimes Goes Detecting With Me, But She Just Sits In The Shade And Reads Historical Romance Novels, She Has No Problem Picking Through The Jewelery Though, Go Figure. trk5capt

well atleat you found the silver quarter, thats a plus! as far as the husband goes they are EASY to replace, sure there is ATLEAST hundred on here looking for a good woman who likes to go detecting :D

Wow thats too bad...but there are alot of women in this forum who hunt alone...maybe you could interest one of your girlfriends in the hobby. Myself, I like to hunt alone or with my daughters...maybe its because I never hunted with a partner...but even when people stop and talk to me...even tho I am smiling...it iritates the heck out of me...hahaha....Its my "thinking time"........ if you are just cautious when hunting you should be fine...or get a big dog.(that can dig!)

This detector got a silver quarter at 8 inches! That is good, you must be a good hunter. Now as for this husband breaking your digger was this on purpose?

My detector is an explorer II and no He didn't do it on purpose but he has a knack of breaking things so its just madening.
I wish I had a partner because sometimes when I realize my oxygen is out I'm a ways form my Jeep and it's very difficult and uncomfortable to get back to it and get another tank. I carry it on my back so it's not easy to tell how much I have used. My brother is coming up from Rhode Island this coming week and if it doesn't rain the whole time we plan on hitting a couple of spots together. It just seems nice to have someone else around. HH all

Dont give up on him McHamby! Make him buy you a new tool & take him out again, he may come around! I just got my new machine yesterday (Quantum XT Pro! WOOHOO!) so my girlfreind has adopted my Prizm3. We went out for a couple hours today & she drove me NUTS!!! I only have one pinpointer so I was going back & forth, getting a little ticked off fer sure! She started picking up on my negative vibes & left me alone for a while, I later realized she had been on her knees in the same spot for some time so I went over to check on her. She had dug a hole the size of a dinner plate & about 12 inches deep, I pinpointed the damn pulltab in the pile of dirt for her & filled it all in. LOL Its frustrating, but she will come around & probably be outscoring me sooner than later! Congrats on the silver & dont give up on your hubby!;D

MC,

sad story, but congrat on the finds.

Where do you usually hunt? What are his interests.

Perhaps you can get him more interested if you look
at the two above.

The woman is not big on me pulling over and hitting
a park or school yard, but enjoys it in the woods
and even helps if I should run into a bottle dump.

With the oxygen and all, I think you should have
a hunting partner. Any clubs in your area? Good
place to meet other hunters.

Good luck,

have a good un............

great find on the quarter, you said something im going to look into.THE OXYGEN TANK U CARRY.BEEN DISABLED NOW FOR ABOUT 4YEARS NOOW .AND ,HAVE TO USE OXYGEN TO.

mchamby, congrats on the silver quarter, Bobbie uses a lesche its pretty darn near indestructible, might try one of these. Dont give up on hubby yet he may still get the spark, eternal optmist here. good luck on upcoming hunts

Sorry to hear about the broken digging tool. Congrats on the silver though.

I feel your pain, McChamby. It's frustrating hunting with a newby and you want them to like it so bad. I've tried that with my dad.....just hoping he'll pass his coil over something good to get him excited. Didn't work. :(

Maybe your hubby will catch the fever, yet...don't give up on him. :)

It was a Lesche Dave, so he was doing some reefing to break it
Thanks everyone, Hubby called and ordered a new one but I have two sites I can only detect until May 1st and also fit in my down days. HH all

I use a 10 inch long flat head screwdriver( poke and circle method), keep one as a spare, does'nt work well in loose soil though, no pin pointer here, i just use the coil (x's and squares method), as for the your hubby, see him what he does well, and love him for his effort, metal detecting is not for everyone.
