If we had any other options we would not have returned to this field as the only areas not too over-grown were way outside of the Roman scatter. However, there was a slim chance of a hammered that we held onto that hope whilst gridding for 6 hours in wet weeds/grass. My boots (army style) felt like they were wellies filled with water when it tips over the top.:tongue3:
As it was areas that we hadn't gridded so often, there were a few good signals, so it felt worth it.

There were 2 areas we did, the one where the hobnail came from was more rough (lumpy) ground with a mix of high weeds & bare (ish) areas. Varied a lot.
