Today I hit 6 or 7 yard sales. That is all I could find listed in my entire county. (very rural)

I wish we had a forum for scrappers.

I did real good, filled the back of my SUV and the front passenger seat.
A few months ago I decided to start scrapping electronics again. I did computers and cells when I lived in SoCA.
Now I am venturing into anything that contains copper and brass also.

Todays haul:
20 cellphones
5 flat screen TVs
4 CRT TVs
8 electric motors (heavy ones)
?? pounds copper pipe & brass (probably more than 40 lbs)
4 Verizon and direct TV set top boxes.

Total cost $21.00

Now I have to tear down and pull the copper and circuit board.
Th cell phones will just go in a box for now. (total cells bought in my lifetime 42,357)

Good on you Dan. Over 42k cellphone in it all. So generally how much can you get in salvage out of a old cell phone?

I would love to do stuff like that but you need to have the space to be able to devote to storing it until you have enough to take in to make it worth it.

Are there any water heater tanks that can be scrapped today? In the old days (50-60 years ago), my dad would grab water heaters put out for the trash for me to chisel off the case down to the bare tank. We lugged them down to the scrapyard and split the profits 50:50. Decent money back then for some of those old tanks.

not where I am at. you have to call the trash company and they will send a truck. (you can only do two big items a year)

Dan we do have a scrappers forum here at Treasurenet. It's down the bottom of the main page, under MISC:

Scrap Metals (treasurenet.com)

Thanks, I added it to my list but only one message going right now.

I now belong to two other forums.
https://www.scrapmetalforum.com/forum.php
and
Scrap Metal & E-Waste Forum - Scrap Metal Forum

The first is USA and very active. The other is Australia based and a little active. I joined this one because the owner is WEEE Ben and he has many great videos on youtube.

I have always paid 50 cents and would get $1 or more. I never did the acid bath to get any gold. I calculate gold content (on older) at about $1.75 each.

Up until four years ago I lived in an apartment with a balcony and a storage cupboard in the carport. Those were my spaces, the wife never complained. (at least not to me) My yardsale buying and scrapping paid for 6 years and two degrees for my daughter. We got one loan and down to $10,000 left, but Trump stopped all loan payments now for over a year.
