I couldn't think of a funny title...more rusty iron

I tried to think of something funny for the picture of my holes. I'm drawing a blank......

The bottom of a T post (fence post)
spark plug wire
gas cap
railroad spike
tooth from a harrow
couple of iron rings
a few bolts
couple of whats its

That area can't be more than 10 by 15 feet, the stuff is everywhere

Well seems to me you are digging up a farm one piece at a time! Now if the folks on that farm were packrats like my grandpa you might be digging for centuries to get all the pieces at the rate you are going! DIG DIG lol Have a great time!

How about we call it Rob's Open Pit Iron Mine and Salvage Project.

Whew, thought you found my spot too, but there aren't any nails, so I'm safe. Keep digging, there is something non rustic there.

After detecting this place for a couple of years, I think I have figured it out. There was a house here that was moved in 1949 when our house was built. I think there may have been a house before that but I haven't found it. I was talking about this to a local farmer and he told me about a local guy who is the dozer operator around here. Some people call him Dirt Johnson, he's quite a character. In the old days, he and his father before him would do dirt work around here. They had a dozer, but no truck to haul off any excess. So they had to use up the dirt they moved. Our house is down the hill toward a creek. I'm thinking that after they built this house, they realized that they had to do something about the drainage. I found a lid to a 55 gal drum next to the house and there was a 1962 penny under it. I'll bet thats about when the dirt was moved. They just covered all the iron with about 6" of dirt. This mixed up the 1800's and 1900's iron. Some of the pieces I found today look like they are from a horse drawn wagon hitch. The T post is probably 1970's or later. The spark plug wire is even later. I've found some flint artifacts just a couple inches deep.

After you detect a site for a while, the trash tells a lot about the history. Sure wish I could find at least ONE old coin though.

"Sticking with magnetic objects"

"Ferric nuff"

Thats a 12" coil on a Garrett GTA 350 I bought for my kid. Now I use it more than he ever did. Wait until you see the detector I'm building. 3 foot coil !!! Gonna find me a meteorite.

I'll post a pic of it in a few days when I get it finished. I was testing it last night and thought I had found something big. Nope just a bunch of little things.

Good ones Charlie :)

How about lotsarustycrap farm?
