My neighbor owns a golf course (best kind of neighbor to have) he acquired/ purchased the farm next to his course to make a driving range. on the farm was derelict farm house in really bad shape.
He got some of his employees to start demolition of the building and was salvaging the really good lumber from it "built in the mid 1800s" one of his guys (a very honest guy) on taking up the floor boards found the US gold coin I posted here.I was going away on vacation and asked if I could get into the cellar hole on my return. when I got back he told me the clear up had gone better than he thought and he had to fill it in :BangHead: I can only wonder what goodies were down there.......HH....Bonz 10 dollar gold coin.webpanother veiw..webp

It never ceases to amaze me how many non-treasure hunters find the best stuff by sheer dumb luck.

Geesh, might of been a bunch of them :icon_thumright:

That is a beauty. Too bad it wasn't from the Carson City mint which is what I found. In that shape it would have been worth a premium. I wonder how a eagle got under the floor boards. That is a big coin.

Thats an awesome find. Too bad well never know what was in the cellar.

My mom had a find like this. When she bought her house it was vacant for 30 years. (Built 1927)
She was rolling up the old rugs and found an 1852 $2.5 Dollar gold coin. Im super jealous but i was able to swing my coil over it...
Rang a perfect pull tab signal :BangHead:

if the ground is still tore up maybe he will let you swing over it.. Thanks for sharing

Thanks for sharing, wish you could have hit the area!

Unfortunately its all laid out as a driving range now, they also found a bunch of silver Canadian quarters believe it or not in a small cardboard box I do have a pic somewhere so I will add it to this post if can find it...HH....Bonz

there's always the nighttime

Awesome story.......

I found some nails in my dirt basement, and an screw-in glass fuse between the rocks that make of the basement wall! Did I mention that two of the nails were 1700's rose head nails!

Why do non-treasure hunters get all the luck! How come a couple walking their dog on their property was able to find $10,000,000 worth of gold coins, and the treasure hunters who spend months research sites normally just come back with pull tabs and shotgun shells. It's just not fair, maybe I should ditch the metal detector and stick to dumb luck :laughing7:.

All joking aside, awesome find by him! Probably once in a life time to find a gold coin under a floorboard!

Great treasure story that still leaves a mystery. If he was a real friend he’d dig it back up. Lol

I disagree with everyone ythats a horrible story I wish I didn't read it LOL Happy Holidays

I couldn't help but notice you are in Canada, so that foreign coin is useless there. Send it to me, and I'll send you all of the Canadian coins I've found.

I'll go into a foundation if there's one there but even if it's filled in it doesn't make a difference. The good stuff is in the yard anyway, not under the house. Ask him if you can hunt the area near where the foundation was when the driving range is closed. Just fill your holes in really well. Unless he put in a few feet of fill dirt you will probably still find a few keepers. Great story!

Hi Ice, like your suggestion but not my coin but it was great just to hold it "its quite heavy" the whole area around the farm house was really contaminated with old farm bits and I had no time if he had told me he was buying the next door land I could have got to it earlier .............Heres a nice old Oldsmobile that was just laying there. and an old ford logo..Farm site3.webpFarm site4.webp
