I don't have a clue!

This item was found in the woods along with other iron pieces and tools. The site has been dated from about 1830 to 1908. I dug it at about 8". I first thought it was a plate for a door latch, but it is solid iron about 3/8" thick 9" high and 2 1/4" wide. Has anyone come across this item before?
Site is along the Southeastern NC coast about 2 miles inland.

Looks very much like my window sashes I pulled out when I replaced my windows in my 1906 home. That would be my guess

First off a window sash and a window weight are two different things.
Second..... window weights do not use square holes to tie off the cord because that would cause a cut in the cord.
Every window weight I have ever seen had rounded holes to tie off the cord.

Must be something else. :icon_scratch:
