It should lay flatter.
Though for some reason the first photo (not enlarged) reminds me of the top off a container that would shake a powder as talc.

I know that is not what it is but it kind jarred my memory of 40+ years back when you would go to a theme park or such, pay your admission and they would snap a metal clasp on a string around your wrist, they were different colors for day of the week I believe.
