I dug a neat one today, but not sure if it is a "real" or reienactor's buckle yet.

Had a call from a friend who wanted to hit an area on a ridge behind an old church. We hunted there for 3 hours, and I found this along with a few buttons that I am cleaning. I know they have had reenactments there in the past, so I am not sure if this is genuine or a repro yet. I have to take the measurements and check the books.

Thats really cool looks pretty old . Hope its original I havent ever seen one like that Great job my friend Tommy

UPDATE: It measures exactly 55x74mm and matches the Ohio Militia plate shown as plate 846 on pg 503 in the book American Military Belt Plates by O'Donnel & Campbell. However it appears to be post war, with the date range given in the book as 1875-1890. Still will become a keeper in my collection.
